With all the hard work you do every day, you may not notice the extent of exhaustion or fatigue you have. If you have a job that makes you work long hours in front of the computer, there is no doubt that your eyes will be tired and exhausted. The eyes are very hard working. Upon waking up in the morning, you already use them until you sleep at night. Tired eyes are very common to people who do not know how to care and treat their eyes properly.
Causes and Symptoms
There are several causes and symptoms of tired eyes. If you have a computer-based job, surely, you will relate to most of these causes and symptoms listed. The most common causes for tired eyes are eyestrain, eye fatigue, allergies, conjunctivitis, excessive crying, lack of sleep, pollution, long hours in front of computer monitor, lack of oxygen supply in cornea, reading for long hours, glare, bright light exposure and eye strain from reading under dim lights.

Effects of Tired Eyes
Since you use your eyes for plenty of activities during the day, having tired eyes will lessen your productivity. You will find it hard to concentrate on the tasks you have to do because the pain and discomfort from your tired eyes offsets your work. The feeling is worsened if you are experiencing painful headaches and migraines which can make you take a day off of work. In addition, if you develop sore eyes, you won’t be allowed to go to the workplace because you can contaminate others. All in all, having tired eyes will affect your work productivity.
Treating Tired Eyes
Tired eyes can be treated without the need for surgeries. The important thing here is to keep your eyes moist and well-rested. You can use an eye drop to keep your eye moist and lubricated when working in front of the computer. You must also remember to blink often. Take a break and look outside your window for at least 20 seconds every hour or so. This will help relax your eyes a bit. Of course, don’t forget to close your eyes every once in a while too. This will help moisten the eyes and relax it for a few seconds.
Doing eye exercises will be helpful in treating tired eyes because the eyes are strengthened. Eye exercise also improves blood circulate in the eye area. Some exercise for the eyes is to face forward with the chin up and start moving your eyes up and down slowly without moving your head. You can also exercise the eyes with a circular movement.
Relaxing tired eyes is the best treatment of them all. At home, simply place two cold spoons on top of each eye as this can reduce eye puffiness. You can also use cotton balls dipped in tea water and place them on the eyelids for a few minutes. Cucumber is said to be very relaxing for the eyes too.
